winter house
“Winter House” is a photographic collage installation series that embodies place and time through image, memory, shadow, and reflection. Inspired by a winter spent at my generational family home by the sea, this collection of artwork traces the evolution of environment and personal identity through the intertwining of place and individual. Akin to a visual poem, an undercurrent of longing defines an intimate narrative and kinship to the honest discovery of landscape and self when seen bare.
Suspended, these multimedia collages incorporate both personal and archival images transferred onto semitransparent sheets of mylar and acetate, creating a traversable landscape of memory and transformation. While installed, the artwork is intended to interact with the present, casting shadows and swaying gently with the movement of bodies.
Grounded in place, the work simultaneously navigates the currents of memory and an ache for a misty horizon. Looking out from the interior at different scales, each work acts as a window, distilling the surrounding landscape down to the rocks, roots, and tides: motifs of natural change and growth. “Winter House,” brushes up against the past and echoes the ephemeral nature of self.
